Such a great analysis!!! I loved the show, my only complaint was Diego Luna’s bland expression on all scenarios and situations. Nevertheless your analysis gave me a in depth understanding of the show and like it even more. Needless to say I find this ideology more appealing, despite the extreme are always despicable and deplorable. The political theory is there to see it when someone helps you to open your eyes, and fleshing the Stars Wars universe with the most realistic background. Real people and real situations that lack from so many science fiction. Thank you so much.

So long as you're willing to leave behind everyone you've ever known laser highway relativistic speed ships at high risk can absolutely get you to distant stars in human lifetimes. You just need to accept that what is a few years for you may be decades or hundreds of years for both your departure and destination making reliable circumstances hard to bet on. Also the energy for the laser comes from your departure point do best hope nothing catastrophic happens there for your centennial journey.

@@DamienWalter ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/20220004684 While NASA scientists have been known to make errors, I will lean towards the probability of them being more accurate than you when they say they can accelerate objects WELL into macro scales (Albeit very light) to speeds approaching 15-20% the speed of light. That's not adequately relativistic for human flight. They rely on numbers because they count on many crafts going off course and many being destroyed by debris on the path. Similar fates, but my original comment made qualifiers for this sort of thing anyway, so it's not outside the realm of what is theoretically plausible. Human interstellar space flight using this technique is a Kardeshev 2-level technology, where you would want the power of a star's light to accelerate a massive object to speed. Much of that mass would be concentric layers of shielding ahead of a rod-shaped craft or structure that is nowhere near as fanciful as shown in Star Trek. Regardless, it is not beyond "all" technology; it is, in fact, within the realm of existing technology, just well beyond any economies of scale we are likely to reach anytime soon. Concession to your point: Your original video said they "will" never exist, not that they are impossible to create. Thus, you "may" be right. The technology to make it already is here, the limitation is resources, and risk tolerance for limited gain, and what amounts to basically a suicide mission that would make a lot of human life expendable to get a few to succeed. Technological advancement would be needed to get it to the level of starships from sci-fi, where it's actually reliable and not unethical or suicidal but also doesn't seem beyond the pale. The key here is that it's the difference between possibility and probability. I will concede that it is very probable it will never happen, even if it is "technically possible." I don't admit the implication that it is technically impossible; that's not the case. The actual trajectory to make it long-term and successful is complex. Still, it is not completely blind and without a roadmap, and interstellar highways using "light" from stars via raw numbers of craft is not impossible or even improbable, though; we do have a bit of a double-edged sword in creating a bit of an "interstellar highway Kessler Effect" if we mess up too much along the way.

The characterization of Asimov's galactic empire as being topical, and the science of psychohistory being heroicized is not accurate really as far as I know. Also, the depiction of the book of these things very much more subtle. It does not endorse wholeheartedly any path including psychohistory, and psychohistory's relevancy is always in question after the first three chapters of the book. Also, saying terminus is an analog for the american colonies, is quite a stretch, and to my mind, never really a thought in azimov's mind. the story is a generalized archetypal history or intention of provoking thought, generally, and not a specific allegory of any one historical event, save the fall of the roman empire. Many people make this mistake of tolkien, thinking the lord of the rings is an analog for world world 2, which while tolkien did not deny the present had some effects on his ideas, he intended it to be a general myth, and not topical. Asimov's focus, as is almost always usual to him, is on the rationalities and competing historical forces, showing that reason and logic can prevail as a way of navigating and organizing thought and thought about things, and reasonable debate or consideration as a desired modus operandi for considering historical events and forces. He thus is eschewing ever following myth and unreasoned or hotheaded sentiment. He probably is so successful because his tone reveals a jokey playfulness and feeling for those who have emotions, feelings and need passion release valves and a jokey self effacing and endearing quality, but reason, almost a "meditative or mindful" quality of it, and consideration being guides to future actions still are his main focus. I in particular think Gibbon or know Gibbon was a clear inspiration for the setup, but I think or believe the foundation was not an analog to modern history or american power since ww2. I havent seen any but general parallels in it, not to my knowledge.

A starship does not need to go FTL to be a starship where did that conclusion come from? Even with an orion drive, NSWR or fusion drives it's possible to reach 10% lightspeed. With things like laser sails and antimatter we are talking speeds over 50% lightspeed, travel time being even shorter for anyone onboard due to time dilation.

Tau Zero was a favorite book of mine for a while. I probably first read it around 1973 when I was 12. Later I stumbled across reprints of E. E. “Doc” Smith’s Lensman books, in which a device that makes spaceships inertialess lets them go faster than light. Late 1940s into the 1950s: my local library had a first edition of one of the books (all originally published as stories or in installments in magazines). Smith was indeed a doctor in that he had a Ph. D. in the exciting new field of food science and was THE expert on commercial mixes for producing doughnuts…

I wouldn't go as far as calling it good, but it's not bad either. It's watchable. At the very least it shows more ambition than Abrams' mystery box storytelling or Filoni's dependence on self-references and easter eggs. I reckon you are right about its target audience, it is young adult fiction essentialy. The problem is that the title and some of the marketing kind of implied it would be a thriller and it did this show a disservice. I wouldn't exactly agree with your view about how teenagers wouldn't be interested in shows such as Andor. I grew up watching prequels and even though I liked the Revenge of the Sith back then (going back to that movie certainly ruins some of these memories), I still felt it fell flat in what it promised. Even back as a teen and young adult I wanted Star Wars that would engage in politics in a more thorough and complex way, as Andor did. I found aspects of it in some of the Expanded Universe media, though it never was quite the way I wanted, so I guess part of the reason why I loved Andor so much is that my feelings of a teenager that such stories could be told in Star Wars.
